Orla Kiely is an Irish born designer based in London who creates minimalist artwork that appears on fabrics, wallpapers and furniture.

Inspired by past decades such as the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, Kiely uses dirtier colours and mixes them with sharp, bright ones to create contrast and vibrancy.

These patterns use a variety of thicker and thinner lines and both block coloured and outlines shapes that are repeated over and over and are easily distinguishable as the work of Orla Kiely.

I love this minimalist style of work and the variety of different patterns that can be created with just a few simple shapes. This has inspired me to create my own artwork based around natural structures using the idea of plants and leaves, as well as applying this style of drawing to my work.
